Professional Clinical Supervision

Professional Clinical Supervision is available for counselling students as per the requirements of the university or college.

From my experience, supervision of professional and ethical practice is the most important factor in the development of a competent practitioner, where supervisees can explore their own professional identity and examine their own beliefs, values, attitudes and biases.  From this perspective, practitioners are able to identify their own issues, prevent burnout and enhance commitment and confidence in their clinical practice.

I am passionate about supervision and encouraging supervisees with constructive feedback, collaborative goal setting and effective management to maintain and facilitate professional and ethical competencies to enhance clients’ positive change processes and the continuation of supervisee’s personal and professional journey.

Clinical Supervision is offered for individuals or group supervision in a creative and supportive environment.

Before Ellen became my clinical counselling supervisor my skill and experience in the profession was relatively limited. Ellen has guided and supported me, through developing my skills in a variety of methods and situations. Her assistance has helped me to reaffirm, over and over again, that this profession is my purpose. She has helped me to increase my experience a hundred fold, has encouraged me to experiment with my skills and to discover who I am on a personal level. Ellen’s skill, compassion, and passion for working with people in this field has made my professional future very bright. It is vast and open, and my wings are spread wide to embrace it, in large part due to the confidence I have gained from her support. Thank you Ellen!

I have worked with Ellen since 2008, first as my peer and then as my supervisor. We have developed a strong collegial relationship and friendship over these years as Ellen has proven herself over and over to be steadfast, supportive, and exemplary in her leadership and care for the workers under her charge. Ellen offers all of herself all of the time and has been unwavering in her personal and professional support of me over the years we have worked together. I know on projects and groups we have run together, she will ‘have my back’ and that things will run smoothly. She is always concerned for others and goes out of her way to help in any situation. Anyone lucky enough to be in her charge should consider themselves fortunate and can rest assured they will receive the very best care and attention.

I strongly recommend Ellen Slater as a Clinical Supervisor. Ellen has been my Clinical Supervisor since July 2013 in my role as a Mental Health Counsellor. I have worked as a Counsellor in various orgnaisations for over a decade and consider supervision to be an integral part of ongoing professional development

I find Ellen to be an extremely competent, ethical and supportive Supervisor. She is emphatic, respectful and person-centred in her approach, encouraging personal reflection whilst developing my clinical knowledge and skills. Ellen has provided me with regular, consistent opportunities for peer and individual supervision, as well as opportunities to debrief, if and when needed.

Whilst it is evident that Ellen has a wealth of clinical skills, knowledge and experience, she is also very present, encouraging and authentic during the supervision process. I am very grateful to Ellen for helping me to develop both personally and professionally in her capacity as my Clinical Supervisor.

Ellen has been my clinical supervisor for the past 4 years. I have felt nurtured and challenged which has enhanced my skills and knowledge as a counsellor. She has created an environment of trust, support, and safety to examine personal issues, professional practice, and reflect on my work in a non-judgmental way, while offering the value of her experience, expertise, and perspective.

Ellen is respectful of my way of working with clients and encouraged me to explore and utilise other modalities such as Art Therapy and Family Therapy. Ellen provided training and support whilst I developed my confidence and skills. Ellen’s approach is professional and personable. I have no reservations in saying Ellen is a competent and capable supervisor.
